What types of car number plates can I get in Belfast?
Not every driver wants the same style of plate. Some people simply need a standard replacement, while others want something more distinctive.
At Wylie Number Plates, options include:
- Standard printed number plates
- 3D gel number plates
- 4D number plates
- 4D gel number plates
- Ghost number plates
- Elevate number plates
- Pressed metal number plates
- Black and silver pressed metal plates
Our standard plates start from £14.49.
3D number plates
3D number plates are a popular choice for drivers who want raised characters with a glossy, more tactile appearance. The 3D gel characters provide a subtle upgrade from standard printed plates while retaining a familiar registration plate design and are legally compliant.
4D number plates
For a sharper, more modern appearance, 4D number plates are another popular option. These plates use raised characters to create a distinctive, premium look.
However, choosing a stylish plate doesn’t mean you have to compromise on legality. The important thing is to make sure the finished plate meets the relevant legal requirements.
Are Wylie Number Plates road legal?
If you’re buying road legal number plates in Belfast, this should be one of your first considerations. We sell only 100% legal, DVLA approved number plates.
UK rules state that number plates fitted to vehicles must meet specific requirements, including the use of reflective material, black characters, the correct white front and yellow rear backgrounds, the correct font and appropriate supplier and British Standard markings. For plates fitted from 1 September 2021, the applicable British Standard is BS AU 145e.
Importantly, the rules allow plates to have 3D raised characters, so you can choose a more distinctive appearance without making the plate illegal.
When ordering custom or replacement plates, it’s therefore important to use a legitimate registered number plate supplier, such as Wylie Number Plates, rather than buying from an unregulated source. If a supplier does not ask you for your proof of ownership and identity, they are operating illegally.
What do I need to get replacement number plates in Belfast?
If you need replacement number plates in Belfast becauseyour plates have been damaged, lost or stolen, you’ll need to provide documentation proving both your identity and your entitlement to use the registration number.
GOV.UK states that number plates can only be made by a registered number plate supplier, and suppliers need to see original documents confirming your identity and entitlement to the registration.
For Northern Ireland motorists, acceptable registration documents can include a V5CNI, new keeper documentation, certificate of entitlement or other relevant authorisation documents. We provide a list of accepted documentation when ordering through our online plate builder.
Having the correct documents ready can make the ordering process much quicker.
