With 80 years of experience serving both the motor trade and car owners, we combine craftsmanship, innovation and attention to detail in every plate we produce — a tradition that began in 1946 and continues to this day. 

Founded by Bob Wylie, the business started as a small workshop with a clear purpose: to bring quality, style and reliability to British number plates. Bob’s background was in the motor trade, having served his apprenticeship with Ford and gone on to work for Riley before returning home to Belfast and eventually running Louis N. Davis, the distributor for Armstrong Siddeley cars.  He was also a formidable RAC scrutineer for many of the motoring events that took place in Northern Ireland in the post-war era.

Later, his son Mike, who embraced the title of The Autonumerologist, took over and with artistic flair honed studying architecture at Queen’s University Belfast, was the driving force behind stylised number plates that were de rigueur through the ‘70s and ‘80s with the introduction of the reflective number plate. Mike was also heavily involved in motorsport, as a scrutineer, commentator and competitor in vintage and classic cars. His vision continues to inspire us as we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology and culture.

Now with the third generation, that same passion for cars, motorsport and engineering excellence still drives everything we do at Wylie’s.

Over the decades, we’ve seen number plates evolve dramatically — from the early enamel designs to today’s advanced laser-cut 4D and gel finishes. As pioneers in the industry, we’ve grown alongside these changes, remaining at the forefront of manufacturing innovation while staying true to our heritage of quality, reliability and great customer service.
