What materials can I choose from for my number plates?
Premium Acrylic
A modern, glossy plastic number plate. Excellent durability and resistance to fading – most likely to be similar to what your vehicle was fitted with when new.
Pressed Aluminium
A lightweight metal plate with embossed characters, often used on commercial vehicles.
Black & Silver Premium Acrylic
A modern acrylic plate with black background and silver characters, ideal when you want a vintage aesthetic with the benefits of contemporary materials.
Black & Silver Pressed Aluminium
A heritage-style metal plate with raised silver characters on a black background, often chosen for classic or historic vehicles.
Most modern cars will use a standard size plate. If you have a short registration number, you may choose a shorter plate – this is entirely down to personal preference. If choosing a shorter plate, do check to make sure there are no existing screw holes that may be exposed.
Most modern cars use a standard size rear plate. Some larger cars, such as a Range Rover or BMW X5, can accept a deeper rear plate. Please measure your car to make sure your plate choice will fit.
You must provide one of the following to show you’re allowed to display the registration number:
vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
green ‘new keeper’ slip from the V5C or V5CNI
certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number
retention document (V778)
a renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)
temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
an electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948 or eV948/2)
a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate
if your fleet is in the new V5C on demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service
UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC)
Proof of Entitlement
You can use the following to confirm your name and address:
driving licence
utility, Council Tax or rates bill from the last 6 months
bank or building society statement from the last 6 months
Whether you’re a lifelong car enthusiast or simply need a replacement number plate, Wylie Number Plates is your trusted destination for premium, precision-made number plates.
With 80 years of experience serving both the motor trade and car owners, we combine craftsmanship, innovation and attention to detail in every plate we produce — a tradition that began in 1946 and continues to this day.
Founded by Bob Wylie, the business started as a small workshop with a clear purpose: to bring quality, style and reliability to British number plates. Bob’s background was in the motor trade, having served his apprenticeship with Ford and gone on to work for Riley before returning home to Belfast and eventually running Louis N. Davis, the distributor for Armstrong Siddeley cars. He was also a formidable RAC scrutineer for many of the motoring events that took place in Northern Ireland in the post-war era.
Later, his son Mike, who embraced the title of TheAutonumerologist, took over and with artistic flair honed studying architecture at Queen’s University Belfast, was the driving force behind stylised number plates that were de rigueur through the ‘70s and ‘80s with the introduction of the reflective number plate. Mike was also heavily involved in motorsport, as a scrutineer, commentator and competitor in vintage and classic cars. His vision continues to inspire us as we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology and culture.
Now with the third generation, that same passion for cars, motorsport and engineering excellence still drives everything we do at Wylie’s.
Over the decades, we’ve seen number plates evolve dramatically — from the early enamel designs to today’s advanced laser-cut 4D and gel finishes. As pioneers in the industry, we’ve grown alongside these changes, remaining at the forefront of manufacturing innovation while staying true to our heritage of quality, reliability and great customer service.
Raised in the heart of the motor trade, cars and motorsport aren’t just our business — they’re part of who we are. That’s why we treat every customer’s vehicle with the same care and pride as our own.
Having produced thousands, if not millions,of plates and served countless happy, returning customers, we’re proud to say that every Wylie plate carries more than a registration and our name — it carries our family’s legacy.

Really good place for a set of number plates. Choose what type number plates you want and then when done, handed sticky pads to put the numbers plates on the car. Good job!
