They are available in a variety of styles and fitted for a variety of reasons, from helping to freshen the look of a car to applying a new dateless registration number for your car. 

All number plates made by Wylie’s and available online are fully legal and in compliance with BS AU 145e – a British Standard laid out by the DVLA to ensure all number plates are properly legible and made from high quality materials.

It is against the law to fit Show Plates to a vehicle on the road – a show plate is considered any number plate that does not comply with the British Standard.

While Wylie’s was founded by Bob Wylie in 1946, it was his son Mike who became ‘The Autonumerologist’ when he took over the business – he was instantly recognisable out on the roads by his own registration number ‘AXC 1’, originally released on a very unique 1934 Siddeley Special Six in London.

Yes, all Wylie Number Plates are manufactured to the current British Standard, BS AU 145e.

Yes, it is a legal requirement for us to receive two key types of document before we can send your number plate: to prove your name, address and right to use a registration number.  The following documents are admissible:

You can use the following to confirm your name and address:

• driving licence
• utility, Council Tax or rates bill from the last 6 months
• bank or building society statement from the last 6 months
• national identity card

You must provide one of the following to show you’re allowed to display the registration number:

• vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
• green ‘new keeper’ slip from the V5C or V5CNI
• certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number
• retention document (V778)
• a renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)
• temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
• a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
• an electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948 or eV948/2)
• a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate
• if your fleet is in the new V5C on demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service
• UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC)

Yes, Wylie Number PLates Ltd is registered with the DVLA and are fully authorised to manufacture and sell number plates to individuals and the motor trade.  Our DVLA registration number is SID 67991.

All number plates will be spaced legally as per BS AU 145e, that means that we cannot provide legal number plates where the spacing is in contravention of these regulations.

Another change with the introduction of BS AU 145e has been the outlawing of slogans on number plates. As all our number plates are compliant with BS AU 145e, we cannot make legal number plates with slogans.

Yes, if you are purchasing the number plates to be fitted to an electric car, we can supply you with ‘green flash’ number plates.

A green number plate can be identified by the green strip on the left-hand side of the plate and will be allowed on all-electric vehicles (EV). These green number plates will also make it easier for local authorities to create new initiatives for electric vehicle owners.

All our number plates are made to order, therefore if the number plates have been produced we cannot be held responsible for errors or typos.  Of course, in the very rare occurrence there has been a fault or error in the manufacturing process please contact us so we can rectify the problem.

Your right to cancel an order starts the moment you place your order and doesn’t end until 14 days from the day you receive your goods.

There are some orders where you won’t have the right to cancel, These include items that are bespoke or personalised.

Made up Number Plates are a bespoke item, therefore we are unable to offer a full refund, we can however refund the cost of your postage, accessories, and fitting kits.

Due to the bespoke nature of Number Plates it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure details are correct.  However, if you realise there is an error, get in contact with us as soon as possible and if we can catch it before manufacture we will happily make the amendment.

Once a number plate is ordered, we ensure that all number plates we manufacture are produced with fully legal spacing, meaning you don’t have to worry. 

Yes, we stock a variety of sizes and even if our plate builder does not feature your size requirements, do get in touch as we may be able to help you with something bespoke and legal or showplates.  We keep a large stock of car and motorcycle sized plates for UK and imported cars.

Yes, you can order as many plates as you like. In fact we offer an option for three number plates – front, rear and trailer/caravan – the trailer plate will always be made as a standard UK oblong size.

In order to produce a legal number plate, we must use the DVLA specified spacing – this is how we will manufacture all legal number plates.

Yes, we do offer next day delivery.  However despatch will depend on receiving copies of the relevant documentation required by the DVLA.

Shipping costs vary depending on the urgency of the delivery, as well as weight and size. Typically, UK wide delivery starts at £5.00 per shipment of a pair of legal number plates.

Typically, 2pm is the cut-off time for us to be able to guarantee same day dispatch – pending the receipt of the relevant documentation.

We endeavour to ship number plates on the same or next day on a first come, first served basis, unless next day delivery is specifically requested and documentation has been received.

We accept all forms of electronic payment online.  Once payment has been taken, your number plate order will join the queue for manufacture.

If you no longer require your old number plates, you should destroy them before disposal.  Simply cutting them up to make them unusable before disposing of them in a safe manner would suffice.

Yes, we do make show plates of all shapes and sizes. We consider show plates to be everything from dealer showroom plates through weight plates or indeed signs for doors, etc.  Due to the very bespoke nature of these plates, we prefer you to contact us directly by email or telephone so as we can give you the best service possible.

No, we don’t sell cherished or dateless registration numbers. We concentrate on making the physical number plates that fit to your vehicle – just like we’ve been doing for over 70 years.
